Kristin always hopes for a happy birthday every year, but she knows that every few years she will have to deal with a Friday the 13th. This year was a doozy. She went downstairs to take a shower, but the water never heated up. Our water heater was leaking and the bottom was full of water extinguishing the flame. She was subbing at AMES so she hurried out the door. Right after school she had to rush home to meet the plumber and of course, we had the usual Nutcracker, dance, and Madeleine was wrapped up with musical rehearsal. Kristin and I did get a little time for dinner at Cafe Rio, which was nice. Eventually Kristin left to shower at her mom's so we could have a late birthday party. But, while she was gone, no one realized the brownies were in the oven so they cooked for over an hour--basically charcoal at that point.

As midnight approached it seemed like her day was doomed suddenly it turned around. Benjamin brought her cards and pictures he drew, the kids brought her presents, McCoy gave her a giant balloon-a-gami crown, and Tessa gave her the new CD from GLEE. She put it on and started lip-singing. We danced and sang along to Glee until way after midnight. I felt like it ended up being a truly "happy" birthday. Kristin, even if you're having a "Friday the 13th" kind of day, we'll treat you like it's your birthday.
